Smithy Clinic

The Team

There are four Chartered and Health Profession Council registered physiotherapists and a musculo-skeletal podiatrist working in the clinic. They are :-

Mo Edwards MCSP HPC Reg

Mo is director, and founder of The Smithy Clinic. After qualifying in 1967 she held various posts across Britain working in a variety of hospitals and clinics. This invaluable experience made her realise that outpatient treatment, and especially the care of back pain, was her main interest. She also took extra training in the care of the elderly, and was physiotherapist in charge at a day hospital for elderly people in the NHS. With her great friend, and mentor Angela Garside, she set up the Smithy Clinic to be able to spend time with patients, and give them the best possible care.

Rebecca Williams MCSP HPC Reg MSc Sports Medicine

After qualifying and working in various inpatient and outpatient posts Rebecca became one of two physiotherapists tasked with treating the professional rugby players of Bath Rugby Club. She has also worked with international and national runners. This led to her embarking on her Masters Degree in Sports Medicine which she completed. Her knowledge and experience in sports injuries with elite athletes is always in demand, and she is no mean runner herself. She is also a member of the AACP which qualifies her to use Acupuncture as part of her practice.

Teri Bayford BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy MSc Orthopaedic Medicine

Teri qualified in Zimbabwe in 1991.During the next ten years she worked extensively with several of the National Zimbabwean Sports Teams as well as concurrently working in a well established Private Practice.. She completed the Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy training in South Africa. She came to the UK 9 years ago and as well as working at the Clinic she works part time for the NHS as a Specialist Orthopaedic physiotherapist (known as an Extended Scope Physiotherapist) working closely with the Orthopaedic Surgeons in her clinics and performing triage for them. She has done extra training to equip her for this role, including joint injection therapy and has completed a Masters Degree in Orthopaedic Medicine . Her drive and enthusiasm for her work is evident to all her patients. She lectures all over the UK on the topic ‘Thoracic Outlet Syndrome’ which is a particular interest of hers.

<strong>Beverley O’Gorman MCSP HPC Reg.

Beverley has gained 25 years of experience in outpatient physiotherapy in many different locations. She is an Army wife & has moved to follow her husband’s postings. Recently, as well as seeing people in the Clinic she has been our ‘Physio in Residence’ at a local GP surgery helping NHS patients with musculo/skeletal problems.

Helen Bridge MCSP HPC Reg.

Helen has extensive experience of Private Practice in Yatton Keynell. She gained even more expertise as one of the dedicated team of physiotherapists at the new, state of the art, Private Hospital ‘The Circle’ at Peasedown St John near Bath. She also has a qualification in teaching Pilates.

Practice Manager

Because we have grown so much in the last few years Mo’s husband Mike Edwards has become de facto practice manager. He has a background in RAF administration as a senior officer and 10 years working with charities helping adults with learning difficulties. He is therefore ideal, helping us with ever growing administration, but still maintaining our ‘Patient Centred’ approach.

Modern private practices have to deal with so much on line communication nowadays that very good receptionists are always needed to deal with it as well as making appointments and replying to queries. Our team of 4 part timers are there to help you enjoy a visit to the Clinic, rather than dreading it.

Jane Ferris – Office Manager

Probably the most computer literate of us all, she looks after invoicing as well as helping all the clients to get the right appointments and to fill in all the necessary forms that Insurance companies require. With two small children of her own she is aware of the problems parents sometimes face.

Janine Taylor

Always ready to help and with great empathy, Janine has also brought her computer skills to us.She will efficiently sort out your appointment to suit you and always has a smile to encourage the worried amongst the patients.
